MASTER ANTOINETTE CHAVEZ HINES
About Our School
Takai Mine Karate Inc. has been open since 1985, in Albuquerque, NM, and provides martial arts classes for ages three and up.
Our school offers group (online and in-person) and private lessons. We teach four styles of martial arts: Tae Kwon Do, Derobio Escrima, Shoto Kan, and Shorin Ryu. Our program focuses on improving our students' lives one kick at a time. Martial Arts training can help relieve stress from our everyday lives. Our focus is to teach our students Courtesy, Honesty, Integrity, Perseverance, and Self-Control (CHIPS).
Tae Kwon Do or Tae-kwon-Do is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. It is regarded as the world's most practiced martial art and sparring (kyeorugi) is an official Olympic sporting event. In Korean, tae means "foot"; kwon means "fist"; and do means "way"; so taekwondo is loosely translated as "the way of the fist and foot". Students can expect to both spar and learn forms. Our students can also expect to learn how to use traditional martial arts weapons and break boards.
Majai Pai Escrima
This is one of the most popular styles our school offers. Escrima is a Filipino Martial arts system that is very practical for those students wanting to learn self-defense quickly. Stuying Escrima will quickly tone your upper body , arms and legs.
Escrima focuses on self-defense against multiple opponents, empty hand techniques, and much more. This is a great self-defense program for people working in tight spaces such as pilots, airline stewards, and other public transit employees. Chief Chavez is a third level red shirt under Grand Master Dan Medina and is one of his Senior Students.
Shorin -Ryu is a style of Karate developed in Okinawa Japan. This martial arts style is heavily focused on areas such as kicks, punches, katas, and weapons. Karate practice strengthens the mind, develops compusure, a clearer thought process, and a deeper insight into one's mental capabilities, and more self-confidence. It strengthens the entire body, improves coordination, quickens reflexes, builds stamina and overall health.
Shotokan is a Japaenese style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Yoshitaka Funakoshi (1906–1945). This style does focus on hand techniques. Karate training will improve Stamina & endurance, improve flexibility and agility. The Japanese forms taught in the school are useful in training our mind , body, and spirit.
